Tips for gathering evidence to demonstrate your skills

The important thing to remember when gathering evidence is that the more evidence the better - that is, the more evidence you gather to demonstrate your skills, the more confident an assessor can be that you have learned the skills not just at one point in time, but are continuing to apply and develop those skills (as opposed to just learning for the test!). Furthermore, one piece of evidence that you collect will not usualy demonstrate all the required criteria for a unit of competency, whereas multiple overlapping pieces of evidence will usually do the trick!

RIIHAN209E - Perform basic rigging

What evidence can you provide to prove your understanding of each of the following citeria?

Plan basic rigging operations

  1. Access, interpret and apply rigging documentation to ensure the work activity is compliant
  2. Obtain, interpret, clarify and confirm work requirements
  3. Write preliminary rigging plan and site sketch considering information essential to perform work activity
  4. Confirm job feasibility and schedule work activity with the client, the load designer, and other relevant persons to perform the work activity
  5. Identify hazards associated with the use of load moving equipment and review measures to eliminate or control these hazards with appropriate parties and in line with standard operating procedures
  6. Calculate and confirm safe working loads and centre gravity using load charts and standard calculation rules prior to load moving
  7. Finalise and confirm rigging plan, including the scheduling of required resources
  8. Check safety requirements for rigging operations are in accordance with safety plans and policies
  9. Select and wear personal protective equipment required for work activities
  10. Identify and display signage, and erect barricades to isolate the work area in line with workplace procedures
